Kadriorg Art Museum, 6 p.m., Tuesday 29th May The English-Speaking Union of Estonia is proud to welcome Count Nikolai Tolstoy, great-nephew of Lev (Leo) Tolstoy, as the guest speaker at our next meeting, to be held on Tuesday 29th May at the Kadriorg Palace (Kadriorg Art Museum), beginning at 6 p.m. The theme of his address will be “The Tolstoys: Twenty-Four Generations of a Famous Family”. Count Nikolai Tolstoy (www.uvsc.edu/commorgs/russia/tolstoy), author and historian, was born in England in 1935, fifteen years after his father’s escape from Russia. Educated at Wellington College and Trinity College Dublin, he now lives with his wife Georgina in a 17th century farmhouse not far from Oxford. They have four children. A man of great intellect and wide-ranging interests, Count Nikolai Tolstoy has published several books on a variety of historical subjects and, like his great uncle Lev (Leo) Tolstoy, his moral integrity and his search for truth have at times led him into controversy with the establishment. We are fortunate indeed to have secured a speaker of such international renown and are making every effort to ensure a good audience. Admission is free for members; non-members are also warmly invited to attend for a nominal charge of EEK 50, payable at the door. If you have received this message in your capacity as head of an organisation or official body, we should be most grateful if you could publicise it for us among your members. We are sure it will be an evening to remember! |
